Planet Erebus

Erebus is the 3rd planet from it''s sun in the Victoria Star System. It was the second planet to be colonized in that system in the year 2137. it maintain a somewhat stable orbit in the outer fringes of the Goldilocks habitable area. It is 7% smaller than Earth and only 6.5% of it''s surface is covered by water that it''s mostly ice located at the poles of the planet. Erebus is a planet with a harsh environment. The average temperature is just about 30 degrees Fahrenheit and It''s atmosphere is breathable, but contains trace amounts of poisonous gases, therefore making unprotected continual exposure lethal to Human beings. Local fauna and flora exists, but it is scarce. It is speculated that Erebus used to be warmer and archaeological investigations seem to confirm that it used to be a planet lush with life.

History

With the proper permits in place, the highly powerful and influential multinational corporation known as Astraea Corp began colonizing efforts on the planet soon after it''s discovery. It was found that despite it's harsh environmental conditions, the planet was rich in natural resources that could be exploited. Chiefly among them, a newly discovered element native to the planet, named Etherium.

Colonization efforts on the planet where very productive and profitable for Astraea Corp. They brought thousands of employees to newly organized underground colonial settlements in order to exploit and mine the planet. 98% of the population consisted of Astraea Corp employees and their families, and with a strict corporate culture, the colonies flourished and prospered.

Then, The Event occurred. Soon after communication with Earth was completely lost and the few hyperluminal ships in the Victoria System failed to return, panic overcame the population and riots broke out in all the colonial districts. Immediately, the planetary administration of Astraea Corp enacted protocols put in place to deal with such an occurrence. The Astraea Security Forces imposed martial law and managed to stop the riots. 20% of the laborers population was eliminated in order to maintain the peace. Since then, Astraea Corp controls the planet with an iron grip. Martial law was never lifted and to this day, they hold a fascist global government over the entire planet.

Erebus is divided by several districts controlled by local District Administrators that report to the Astraea Corp Planetary Administration located in the city of Agartha. All the settlements are located in underground facilities due to the harsh conditions on the surface. Although there are several hydroponics and farming efforts on the planet, food is scarce. Therefore, they depend heavily on trade with the nations of the planet Elysium in order to feed the population. A source of resentment among many Erebians against Elysium.

Due to the strict laws and gubernatorial discipline, Astraea Corp managed to maintain a higher level of technology through the years after The Event. But, most of the technology that have survived is over a hundred years old and the technological savvy to keep it running is slowly being forgotten. Therefore, Astraea Corp funds efforts to appropriate High Tech...by any means necessary.

Another interesting fact about Erebus is that there is growing rebel faction that aspires to overthrow the Astraea Administration. So far, the corporation doesn't consider them a threat. So far.
